Gingerbread Men (and Women)

We started having a gingerbread man decorating party a few years back. Every year it grows. It is now my kids favorite Christmas tradition. This year we had 2 parties. One for the little kids and one for Holly.

Here is the recipe if you have not made them before. It is a good one. The kids like to decorate them I like to eat them. I use a thick homemade cream cheese frosting for glue. My favorite candy to glue on: red hots.

Grandma Dame's Molasses Cut Out Cookies

1/2 Cup Shorting
1/2 Cup Brown Sugar
1/2 Cup Molasses
1 Tbsp Vinegar
1 beaten egg
2 1/2 Cups Four
1/2 tsp Salt
1/4 tsp Soda
1 tsp Baking Powder
1/2 tsp Ginger
1/2 tsp Cloves

Cream sugar and shorting. Put vinegar in to measured molasses, them add to sugar mixture. Add egg and then whisked dry ingredients. Chill a few hours. Roll 1/4 inch thick, cut out place on greased cookie sheets. Bake 350 degrees for about 8 minutes.
